d0079151_17203721.jpgChum is seductively disarming—the juxtaposition of Moroccan and European motifs evokes the dwelling of a stylish but down-to-earth friend who excels at setting the mood. The entrance is stylishly disheveled with exotic flora and beautiful wrought-iron garden accessories; the effect is uniquely romantic. Everything here catches the eye—dazzling chandeliers, flowers peeking out of vintage olive jars, a decadent purple couch, darling knick-knacks begging to be taken home—and in fact, they are for sale. Quilted, toffee-colored sofas sit under the huge windows, creating a cozy nook. Chum also has a sushi bar raised on a dais next to the kitchen, where pastel slivers of fresh fish make sushi junkies feel like kids under a piñata. But, although it’s obvious a lot of fuss went into the décor, the menu is more homey, with everyday Japanese dishes that are prepared with motherly TLC: nothing fancy or exotic.
